Measure the areas for a festoon-lighting enquiry

A festoon enquiry is easier to assess when every requested area has a name and an approximate size. Bring the drawing, measurements and photographs together before asking about a final arrangement. Your measurements explain the space; Fables reviews the lighting, fixing and installation proposal. Keep unmeasured or inaccessible points visible so an apparently complete drawing does not conceal a question that still needs checking on site.

Name the areas you want discussed

Identify each area to be discussed: dining, walkway, marquee edge or overhead atmosphere. Use labels that the venue and other suppliers recognise, such as outside dining or the route beside the marquee. Separate decorative requests in different places rather than giving one total length that leaves their locations and purposes unclear.

Put measurements on a simple plan

Label approximate distances on a simple plan without calculating final cable/lighting quantities. Show which points each measurement connects and identify whether it is approximate or checked. A ground distance is information for the discussion, not confirmation of the final installation length, light quantity or method. Ask what additional measurement or review the supplier needs.

Add fixing and supply information

Mark possible fixing points, available power information and entrances. Mark possible points as proposals and name the person controlling them. Record the venue's known power information at the relevant area. Keep permission and equipment suitability questions attached to those labels instead of assuming a nearby tree, post or building feature can be used.

Number the photographs

Add numbered photographs tied to the plan and note inaccessible or uncertain locations. Take views that explain the area and approach, then mark each viewpoint on the sketch. Include anything difficult to describe, such as a change of level or a boundary restriction. If you cannot inspect a proposed point, label that uncertainty for supplier review.

Send a clear measurement register

Create a measurement register for Fables to assess and turn into an agreed design. Give the plan a date and list the unanswered measurements or permissions. Share it with the matching photograph list and venue contact. When the arrangement is proposed, check it against the same labelled areas so everyone can recognise which request the quotation covers.

Questions about this worksheet

Should we calculate the lighting length ourselves?

Provide approximate dimensions and explain the areas you want discussed. Ask Fables to confirm the proposed layout, equipment quantities and fixing arrangement after reviewing the site information; a measurement sheet is not an installation design.

What if a measurement is missing?

Label the missing information and explain which area or point it concerns. Ask what further detail Fables needs. An honest gap is more useful for review than a guessed dimension presented as though it has been checked.
